Centre LSD in Collaboration with Network of Men Leaders to End Violence Against Women in Nigeria, Celebrates International Women’s Day 2019

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) in collaboration with the Network of Men Leaders to End Violence Against Women in Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 2019 International Women’s day.
The International Women's Day (March 8) is a day set aside globally to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equity.

International Women's Day (IWD) has been celebrated for well over a century, with the first   IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. As aptly captured by this year’s themeBetter the balance, Better the World (#BalanceforBetter), all hands must be on deck to ensure that women are given equal opportunities to explore their full potentials as the men.
A release by the Campaign Manager of the United Nations Network of Men Leaders at the Centre, Mr. Vincent Dania, said the call could not have come at a better time than now that Nigeria has just concluded the presidential and National Assembly elections, and the APC led Federal government is on the verge of constituting a new Federal Executive Council (FEC) to pilot the affairs of Nigeria for the next four years.
Recall that the current APC led Federal government did not consider the provisions of the 35% affirmative action in the appointment of cabinet ministers and Heads of MDAs in the present administration.
The release, enjoined the Buhari led government to  respect and adhere strictly to the 35 percent affirmative action principle as enshrined in the National Gender Policy of 2006 adding that Nigeria must respect its commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at transforming the world by 2030 of which, goal 5 is specifically targeted at achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls
