IMO TECHNOLOGY MINISTRY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LEO STAN EKEH FOUNDATION PREPARING 5400 IMOLITES FOR JAMB; GRADUATES FIRST SET

At least 600 out of the scheduled 5,400 young Imo state citizens soon to sit for the UTME- JAMB examinations in Nigeria have undergone Computer Based Testing (CBT), Word processing, and Digital Skill this week.

This project being facilitated by Imo state government through the Ministry of Technology Development is sponsored by the Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation owned by an Imo state Indigene.

The 600 young people were the first to graduate from the training which runs for 2 weeks in each Local Government Area as begun from Monday Nov 4 to Friday Nov 8. They were trained in 6 local government areas namely Nwangele, Nkwerre, Oru west, Owerri Municipal, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Ehime Mbano.

The training also empowered 12 graduates who were accredited trainers in these local government areas making this project a 360-degree youth empowerment project.
The program is designed to equip 5, 400 Jambites in the 27 Local government areas of Imo state with the necessary computer skills to sit for, and pass the JAMB examinations and more so, get equipped for life, thereby boosting human capacity in the state especially from the grassroots.

According to the Commissioner for Technology development, Nze Meekam Mgbenwelu “we have just 6 months to catalyze ICT skill enhancement not just for the youths but also for all Imolites in all sectors of the economy. Imo is the trigger state for technology and we are excited for the revolution in job creation, digital governance and ease of business that is about to happen. We can only be grateful to the visionary Governor of Imo state, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and the insightful generosity of the Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation for making this possible through our ministry”.

While on a tour of the 6 Local Government areas this week, a blogger who was an eye-witness, Jenny Chisom remarked that “seeing the excitement among most of the young trainees, from being taught computer practically and becoming familiar with the computer system hardware and software, creating their own works with it, and practicing taking exams online, is so fulfilling”.

The program which will get into the first quarter of 2020 as it sets to empower 5, 400 Jambites in all LGAs, is a great one to support and indeed sustain.
Imo represents hope with its huge human capital potentials and technology has indeed come to boost that.
