Security experts advocate use of AI to combat insecurity

The Alumni Association of the National Defence College, an umbrella group for retired military officers who served at the Defence College, is leading the talks for the use of tech as a game changer in tackling insecurity.

Nigeria’s quest to develop a viable military industrial complex started with the establishment of the Defence Industries Corporation in 1964, a facility that went into decline after the Nigerian Civil War.

With the increasing use of technology in security management especially Artificial Intelligence as force multipliers Nigeria seems to be at the threshold where it will have to deploy more technology in combating the evolving security challenges.

AI is already used in other climes in many facets of security including, crime prediction, fraud detection and prevention.

Russia and China are taking the lead in AI technology.

In tackling the security challenges in Nigeria, troops are sometimes overstretched.’Experts have said to entrench the use of technology in fighting crime in the country there has to be a lot of policy changes.

The task now is for the government to establish institutional frameworks that will fast track indigenous technological advancement.
